Operations Department Position
I. POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- At least 2 years of experience working in transportation operations (dispatching or planning), rating, or customer service OR a college or technical degree in transportation and logistics
- Basic working knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Demonstrable organizational and time management skills
- Demonstrable oral and written communication skills
II. OPTIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior experience working in heavy haul operations, administration, rating, or customer service
- Experience working with TMWSuite enterprise software or other trucking industry-specific asset management software (McLeod, Prophesy, or other like-kind software.
- Experience accessing and maintaining records in an electronic document management system
- Experience in truck driver management and/or dispatching
- Working knowledge of oversize/overweight permits, load securement, equipment, and common terminology related thereto
- Working knowledge of heavy/construction equipment
- Working knowledge of various types of trucking equipment (tractors, trailers, and other YTC equipment)
- Experience working with and managing in-cab mobile communications devices (Omnitracs/Qualcomm preferred, but PeopleNet, Xata, or other mobile communications devices acceptable)
- 4 year college degree
- College degree or certificate in transportation or logistics management
III. JOB DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES
- Manage truck drivers on a daily basis
- Maintain relationships with customers over the telephone by providing rates, handling inbound customer calls, and addressing customer problems, questions, and complaints
- Work cooperatively and collaboratively with other members of operations team, outside sales personnel, drivers, and project managers to handle customer freight demands
- Assist in planning use of YTC assets to handle customer freight demands
- Work with YTC administrative staff and customers to resolve customer invoicing issues
- Manage documents and customer information related to freight moved by YTC
- Data entry of customer information, shipper and consignee locations, and equipment requirements for customer freight
- Maintain working knowledge of YTC equipment and driver capabilities
- Maintain working knowledge of geographical location of YTC equipment for purposes of obtaining and handling YTC customer freight
- Work with YTC management to ensure customer and driver policies and procedures are implemented
- Ensure that YTC’s core working values of “Safety, Service, and Professionalism” are implemented throughout the trucking operations of YTC
